Here, we have a TED talk from Hailey Hardcastle. Did you know its Mental Health Awareness week? Although this year’s theme is ‘Loneliness’ we thought it appropriate to share this insightful TED TALK. It is titled ‘Why students should have mental health days.’ It’s just over 7 minutes and raises some interesting points. Hailey Hardcastle explains why schools should offer mental health days and allow students time to practice emotional hygiene without stigma.
Hailey is an influencer in the US who wants to provoke change to school policies and colleges. She established a network of students to make schools better by supporting policies that would help students with mental health challenges. Hailey and her network helped pass a law in Oregon. The law allows students to take a mental health day off from school, the same way one would a sick day. She has been working since to pass the same law across other US states. Hailey has a focus on issues related to mental health for young people of schools age. In addition she wants to bring more comprehensive mental health resources to classrooms.
